about

record #8
the destroyer
this record is dedicated to the people we lost and almost lost in 2021

In early 2020, we were in the process of mixing a follow-up album to our 2019 release, mercury. We recorded over two days at the Oddfellows Temple in St. Catharines during the dying days of summer 2019. The first session was aimed at capturing songs from our live set, and the second session saw us take an improvised approach--something we had not tried before in a studio. We were in the process of working through the live bed tracks from those sessions and layering in additional sounds from various artists in our musical community when COVID-19 hit. As was the case for most artists, across many disciplines, our project ground to a halt.

About five months later, after a lot of idle time and a few outdoor jams in a good friend’s backyard outside the city, we set up at the Oddfellows again. With no new material prepared but an intractable desire to create again, we kept the lineup pared down, for obvious reasons, to just five of us (3 guitars, bass and drums) and decided to take a purely improvisational approach to the session. These songs are single takes of the band playing live, with editing and mixing done later on. After sifting through those recordings, we eventually chiselled out 9 tracks that would become a record called The Destroyer.
